The Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO) is an orthotic device that is designed to assist with hip extension when the patient has weak or non-functioning hip extensors.  It incorporates bilateral Knee Ankle Foot orthoses (KAFOs) with a thoracic extension and hip joint, in conjunction with a reciprocating mechanism and external walking aides such as bilateral forearm crutches or a walker. The reciprocating mechanism allows for one limb to remain in extension while the other limb flexes. This extensive bracing system can be used for patients with a diagnosis of spinal cord injuries and/or spina bifida.
